OPTIONAL POST: What Do You Believe In? (CLOSED)

Do you practice a religion? Do you hold a life philosophy? Why or Why not? Do you have ideas about how to live and what happens to a person after he or she dies?

Do NOT respond to anyone with judgement

  1. I believe in God and Jesus. I am a Christian and i believe that God made the earth and i believe that Jesus saved us from our sins. I believe that Adam and Eve were the first people God put on earth and that every one sins. I believe that God is always with you and that you should always pray for forgiveness when you sin and pray before you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  2. woot woot first post! I am a christian (presbytarian version) and i believe that after we die, we will go to heaven and spend the rest of time with god and all of our other friends and family. all we have to do in life to get to heaven is pray to god, respect others, and be good people. that, is why i am a presbytarian christian

  4. I believe in an old religion, a religion that started before Christianity and slightly influenced it. It is the Greek religion during the time of Alexander the Great, so it was mixed with many other religions as well. It is called the Hellenistic religion.

I believe in the ancient Greek religion for a lot of reasons, but mainly because of its ruling status. Hellenistic religions believe in piety (order of nature). If various gods all ruled in an oligarchy, the order of nature would all be controlled evenly, however the gods would constantly be at war with one another. If only one god ruled, piety would not be even and the order of nature would no longer exist. Helenistic provides that there is one main ruler (Zeus) who keeps everything in order, but there are also equally powerful rulers (such as Poseidon and Hades) that rule at his side, so piety is kept in balance.

I've not heard someone give such insight about Hellenism.

  6. I was wondering if anyone knows the difference between being a christian & a catholic?

    ReplyDelete
  7. ya lauren thats awsome. I dont think that i eva met a hellenistic before. Personally i am presbytarian. I wasnt really though when i was born. My family was the kind of family that would say they were christian when asked but never really did anything about it and barely even went to church. I credit my friend royce wit my "conversion". Me and Kurt fo to the same church called MPPC. Its awsome.

  8. Ah Sophia, great question. In short, Catholics practice Christianity.

Back in 1054, the one Christian church broke into 2 (the byzantine church and the catholic church) separate divisions of Christianity. Later, as we will study, the Catholic church was broken into many, many, many MORE sects (or divisions) of Christianity. The big difference is the way that Christianity is practiced among these groups and there are some pretty big disagreements among Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox, etc. They began way back when and continue today.

  9. I go to the same church as Kurt and Jack. Our church which is presbytarian and my church is mainly based on helping the world and learning about god and jesus. My church does many mission trips to places like Africa and Mexico.

  31. ok so my family is atheist but i believe in god, just dont go to church. I am catholic even tho my parents arent. (they were raised catholic but turned atheist. TRAITORS!)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm also Catholic. We rarely go to church, and before we stopped, pretty much the only reason my brother and I went was to get a free donut after the service.

  33. I beleive just like what Samie wrote.
I also think u should pray before u eat even when there are people around you I don't think u should care at all. i don't believe in idols I just believe in God and Jesus you know. I think it is important to pray every night and every morning. I am considered a christian Evangelic from the chistian religion but i don't believe in religion I believe that God is the one who loves you and he can acctually hear things when you talk with him(pray). I am not trying to offend anyone if ur catholic but I don't think that the virgin mary hears anything because she is just a statue...

I also don't celebrate any holiday exept for new years. you mifght think that it is sad but I believe that some holidays like easter and Halloween are put here by the devil. He can make you think they are nice but no they aren't.

For Example in halloween some witchcrafters sacrifice children to who knows who but I don't think that in a holiday that God would like that would happen.(That is why i don't participate.) I believe that on october 31st is also the devil's birthday.

I have learned alot from joyce Meyer and on the first 7th grade dance i went to one of her conferences at the HP pavilion and It was very fun.

my mom also loves her and her books.

For example she says that some people go to church on sunday and then forget about God the rest of the week. Then they still want to be saved.

If you want to learn more about joyce and her books go to www.joycemeyer.com

( I am not trying to offend anyone. If I did I am sorry)

  34. What were ChrisB and kurt talking about? and why are they going to Mexico? Mexico is awsome!!!!!!!
I am an Atheist so I believe in the big bang and the evolution of the earth. I also believe that humans should get full credit for global warming and stop blaming cows. Cows are domesticated animals and wouldn't be her if it wasn't for us no more cows!!!!! sorry Nicky no more burgers, I wonder what pizza with goat cheese would taste like. Ughh!!! maybe it would taste better than plane goat cheese, hopefully.

  36. Me and my family are catholic but we only go to church once in a while, and I pretty much agree with Sam G. I disagree with Jorge on the fact that Easter is put here by the devil because Easter is where we celebrate Jesus' resurrection.

    ReplyDelete
  37. leland I believe it and for others it is really hard to understand but I mean we can believe what we want

    ReplyDelete
  38. I mean it is Ok that we disagree like mr k said.

    ReplyDelete
  39. That's cool Jorge.
Kurt, Hellenistic is a VERY old religion. But religions never fade, especially one as popular as an ancient Greek one. There are still books on the regular beliefs and practices of everyday life.

    ReplyDelete
  40. cool. If you haven't heard of a religion that doesn't mean that it isn't real.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh and Jorge I don't celebrate all of the holidays either so you're not left out.

    ReplyDelete
  42. even if I was left out I don't have to be like others I can belive what I want but I also didn't know that u didn't either

    ReplyDelete
  43. I don't. It's not that I miss out on every holiday, just some.
Here's something I'm curious about: Do you guys know any cool philosophy that has to do with your religion?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Not really. There probably is some, I'm just too lazy to go read about it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I know a lot. But some of it might be insulting to the human race. Kinda...

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm very proud of how all of you show respect and understanding to those who have differing beliefs.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree with sam(ch) because i believe in evolution and that we should be taking all of the credit for global warming. im a christian, but i don't go to church. im currently like jack when he was born...(scroll up) that im a christian, but i don't really do anything about it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. btw, Lauren K:

your religion is so cool! when and how did u decide to support that religion? do u go 2 a church for it?

    ReplyDelete
  49. My family is kinda the same as Pauli's except we're technically Jewish. But we don't do anything about it either. I get to celebrate both Hannukah and Christmas though!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Id be very interested to hear the philosophys of your religion lauren. Here are the basic ideas of the christian religion (In my opinion at least):
all humans sin but we are saved by the grace of god. Because jesus died on the cross we are forgiven as long as we are genuinly sorry and repent. Also it is that god is all-powerful and all-knowing and ever just. lots of people question the christian god saying: "if hes all-powerful and just than why are so many innocent people in the world being harmed? why doesnt he save them?" what they dont realize is that if we were still in the garden of eden and we hadnt "ate the apples" because satan tempted us we wouldnt be paying for our sins. We can never really understand god completely because he thinks on such a higher level than us. explaining his ideas to us would be like explaining algebra to a preschooler. But if we go to heaven we will be united with him and will finally understand. We will basically be filled with happyness and his glory for all of eternity. The problem that most people have is that they dont understand that eternity is forever compared to the mabye (if your lucky) hundred years that youll live. they want to go for the immediate pleasure and blind themselves to the devastating effects that whatever this emmediat pleasure they want will have in the long run. its sorta like taking a test. Why would you cheat? sure you may seem smarter and you may get a better grade but your no smarter. And thats the whole point of going to school. That youll get smarter so youll do better in real life. if you cheat on a test your not going to survive when you actually need to know what you learned. In the same way if you sin during your short life you wont be better off when you face god on judgement day. and instead of being eternaly happy youll suffer for eternity. Sins just not worth it. Think about how quickly your life will be over. Dont waste it.

I no im not explaining this very well but if your at all itrested it what im sayin you might want to pick up a bible. You dont even have to do it to be a christian, just check out the ideas. Youll find that your life will probably improve.

  52. also as a response to kurts request....I!!! my next door nieghbor nick shlien (maby u know him) has a babysitter named maggie. She is a incredible person and has been with the shlien family for a long time. unfortunetly a few years ago she tested positive for luekemia (not sure about spelling). She was in pretty deep and only had about a five percent chance of survival. Every night i prayed for her for as long as she had had it (about six months). Unfortunetly it didnt seem to be having much effect. She was steadily getting into worse condition. But as she was nearing the condition where there was nothing the doctors could do anymore i was lying in bed about to pray for her, and I could just feel that i was in gods presence. I cant really explain what hapened but god just sorta filled me with hope... and the next month maggie had recovered.

I no its like the most cheezy predictable story youve ever heard but its true. And i fully bielive that god visited me that night.

  53. Wow Jack. I was going to say that humans are steeped in ambiguity; yet somehow pass our daily lives completely unaware of the blemishes in our souls. But I like your responses better.

    ReplyDelete
  54. umm... what does ambiguity mean?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Ambiguity means doubt. Sorry that was a complicated way of putting it
